The rule we hold ourselves to
The recommendation is written before the monetisation is added. We work out what the right answer actually is, then check whether a link exists — never the other way round.
In practice that means recommending things that earn us nothing: cleaning a part rather than replacing it, keeping equipment a contractor would rip out, or buying the cheaper item. If the twenty-dollar fix works, the twenty-dollar fix goes first in the article.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment for a review, a rating or a place in a comparison table.
- We do not let manufacturers or contractors preview articles or influence their content.
- We do not present a documentary comparison as hands-on testing. Where we have not physically used a product, the article says so.
